Ken Sukhia Wins Conservative Straw Poll in CD 2

Congressional hopeful Ken Sukhia beat out his Republican primary rivals in a straw poll held at the end of last week by conservative group Florida Family Policy Council.

The straw poll was held after a debate in Tallahassee on Thursday. Sukhia, who served as U.S. attorney in North Florida under President George H.W. Bush, took 42 percent of the vote with Tallahassee attorney Mary Thomas in second with 28 percent. Dr. Neal Dunn and businessman Jeff Moran are also running in the Republican primary.

The Florida congressional district is set to radically change after the November elections. Between redistricting, some unexpected retirements and four representatives running for the U.S. Senate, almost half of the Sunshine State’s 27 congressional seats are in play in the primaries or the general election. With that many seats up for grabs, Florida can expect some differences in how it's represented starting in 2017.

The Republican Party of Florida has rounded out its final list of delegates it will send to Cleveland for the Republican National Convention in July.

Over 600 people applied to be at-large delegates for the party. On Saturday, RPOF Chair Blaise Ingoglia recommended 15 candidates to be the party’s at large delegates at the party’s spring quarterly meeting in Tampa.

Feds Bust $13 Million Food Stamp Scam in South Florida

Florida is at the center of a massive food stamp fraud bust with 22 people charged from allegedly collecting over $13 million from the United States Department of Agriculture by fraudulently trading food stamps for cash.

U.S. Attorney for the Southern District of Florida Wifredo Ferrer, joined by Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi and Chief Financial Officer Jeff Atwater, among others, announced the charges Wednesday.
