UWF Says 'No' to Don Gaetz As Next University President

Don Gaetz won’t be University of West Florida’s next president. On Thursday, the Northwest Florida university went a different direction, and the board of trustees passed over Gaetz in favor of UWF’s provost, Martha Saunders by a vote of 9-4. 

Challenges to New Water Standards Tossed Out

Siding with the Department of Environmental Protection on procedural grounds, an administrative law judge has rejected a series of challenges to controversial new state water-quality standards.

Judge Bram D.E. Canter on Tuesday issued an 11-page ruling that dismissed the challenges filed last month by the Seminole Tribe of Florida, the city of Miami, Martin County and Florida Pulp and Paper Association Environmental Affairs, Inc.

FEA Appeals Tax Credit Scholarship Lawsuit to Florida Supreme Court

The two congressional representatives from Florida who lead the House Middle East and North Africa Subcommittee scored a win this week as the U.S. House passed  a resolution backing a longterm Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on military assistance between the U.S. and Israeli governments. 

U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen, R-Fla., who chairs the subcommittee, was joined by her colleague U.S. Rep. Ted Deutch, D-Fla., the ranking Democrat on the subcommittee, in launching the resolution back in May.  Twenty other members of the Florida delegation also co-sponsored the proposal.

Citrus Land Drop-Off Continues Across Florida

Coming off their worst harvest in five decades, citrus growers in Florida have fewer acres to work with, as they struggle to maintain the state's signature crop against an incurable bacterial disease.

The citrus industry lost 4 percent of its grove land, 21,275 acres, over the past year, according to a survey released Monday by the U.S. Department of Agriculture.
