U.S. Sugar: Deal's Not Dead

A spokeswoman for giant U.S. Sugar said Thursday the $536 million deal between her company and Gov. Charlie Crist to sell the state 73,000 acres of mostly-citrus land in the Everglades is far from dead.

U.S. Sugar spokesperson Judy Sanchez wasn't fazed by the fact that a federal judge Wednesday overturned Crist's decision to put the massive A-1 reservoir project on hold while the state and U.S. Sugar worked on the land purchase.

"This does not preclude the state from moving forward with the U.S. Sugar purchase," Sanchez said.

Medicaid Change a Hard Pill for Pharmacies to Swallow

Florida pharmacies might need to cut their staff and operating hours if state lawmakers change the way Florida calculates Medicaid reimbursement rates for prescription medication.

The Florida Retail Federation, which represents some of the states largest pharmacies, said a House appropriations bill would cut Medicaid reimbursements by 2 percent for brand-name drugs.

To take another cut would make it hard for us to sustain our Medicaid programs, said Sally West, the Federation lobbyist concentrating on the issue.

Greer Threatens to Sue GOP

Former Florida Republican Party Chairman Jim Greer pushed back Thursday against state GOP officials, threatening to sue the party to comply with terms of a severance package which officials say was never properly completed.

Greers attorney, Damon Chase of Lake Mary, has a seven-page agreement signed by Greer and top party leaders, dated Jan. 4, that would have paid him $11,250 monthly for 11 months. In turn, Greer was to step down as chairman.
