Crist: BP Finally Put $25 Million in State's Hands

Florida finally received the $25 million BP promised it would give to advertise that Floridas beaches are unsullied by oil, Gov. Charlie Crist announced Tuesday afternoon. The money came less than eight hours after the Cabinet and one senior senator slammed Crist for not doing enough to expedite receipt of the oil company's check.

Existing Home Prices Edge Up Again

The median price of a Florida home inched up 1 percent in April from a year ago as sales shot up 27 percent, according to figures released by Florida Realtors on Monday.

The median price of $140,100 was 2.3 percent higher than the median price in March, marking the second straight month of price increases, raising the prospect that the real estate market may be finally starting to head the other direction in price after two years of declining values.

TaxWatch Catches $60.6 million in 'Budget Turkeys'

Projects slipped into the budget late in the negotiation process or without adequate public review could gobble up nearly $60.7 million in the proposed $70.4 billion budget now on Gov. Charlie Crists desk.

And Florida TaxWatch, a nonprofit government watchdog, wants the governor to veto these "budget turkeys."

Lawmakers slipped 41 such turkeys into the budget this year, the pro-business nonprofit revealed Monday, and they are costing the state needed transportation funds and services for vulnerable Floridians.
