Tom Grady to Take Banking Reins

Saying that financial capital goes where it feels most welcome, former state Rep. Tom Grady became Florida's newest commissioner of the Office of Financial Regulation after unanimous approval Tuesday by the governor and Cabinet.

A former state representative from Naples, Grady comes to the post after a career as an investment and financial services lawyer with knowledge of the industry his office will regulate.

President Signs Debt Deal, Repeats Call for Taxes

President Barack Obama on Tuesday signed the debt and deficit package that gives Congress more time to make the hard decisions.

Easily clearing the Senate 74-26 -- Democratic Sen. Bill Nelson voting in favor and Republican Sen. Marco Rubio voting against -- the measure raises the nation's debt ceiling above $16 trillion and calls for some $2 trillion in budget cuts.

But the spending package lacks specifics, and Obama said it will require both parties to "work together on a larger plan to cut the deficit, which is important for the long-term health of our economy."

GOP 2012 Hopefuls, Conservative Stars Heading to Florida for CPAC

The Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) is set to make its debut outside of the Beltway in Orlando on Sept. 23 -- and its bringing a host of Republican presidential candidates and conservative leaders to the Sunshine State.

The event, which is backed by the American Conservative Union (ACU) will be held concurrently with the Republican Party of Floridas (RPOF) Presidency 5 event, which will feature a debate between the various hopefuls for the partys presidential nomination. The RPOF plans to hold a straw poll on Saturday, Sept. 24.
