Ex-Employee Says Jennifer Carroll, Aide Caught in 'Compromising Position'

As part of her defense in a criminal trial, a former aide to Lt. Gov. Jennifer Carroll said she caught the lieutenant governor in "a compromising position" with another aide shortly before being fired last year.

The allegations are part of the ongoing prosecution of Carletha Cole, a former aide to Carroll who shared a recording of a conversation with Carroll's chief of staff with a reporter for the Florida Times-Union after she was fired.

Cole has been charged with disclosing that recorded conversation.

Florida Reps Spar Along Party Lines on House Vote to Repeal Obamacare

House Republicans, with a handful of bipartisan support, again voted to repeal Obamacare, the 2010 Affordable Care Act, in a response to the U.S. Supreme Court decision that upheld the law.

The House Bill, Repeal of Obamacare Act, HR 6079, is now expected to languish in the Democratic-run Senate.

Following a two-day debate, the U.S. House voted 244-185 in support of the repeal effort, with five Democrats joining the GOP majority.

Floridas delegation voted strictly along party lines.

Barry Gilway: No 'Doom and Gloom' Rate Scenarios on Citizens' Horizon

Less than a month into his new job as head of the bloated Citizens Property Insurance Corp., longtime insurance industry executive Barry Gilway said his expectations to reduce the size of the state-backed provider remain his most challenging endeavor.

In a meeting with the Tallahassee media on Wednesday, Gilway said its still too early to offer specifics for Citizens -- but he did elaborate on some of the company's greatest opportunities and challenges.

Connie Mack Begins to Steam Ahead of Bill Nelson

A Rasmussen Reports poll released Wednesday finds U.S. Rep. Connie Mack -- the heavy favorite to win the Republican nomination -- with a solid lead over Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in Florida.

The poll of likely voters finds 46 percent backing Mack, while Nelson lags behind with 37 percent. While 10 percent are undecided, 7 percent say they support other candidates in the race. Other polls have shown a closer contest; however, a poll from conservative-leaning Rasmussen in April had the numbers reversed, with Nelson taking 47 percent and Mack trailing with 36 percent.

A stubborn and deadly outbreak of tuberculosis in the Jacksonville area is prompting Florida to team up with the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention to battle the disease, but state health officials insist the situation is under control.

The TB outbreak is linked to 13 deaths and nearly 100 illnesses since 2004, mainly among homeless people. It's estimated about 3,000 people have been exposed to the contagious disease.

Florida Economists See Looming Slowdown

Floridas top economists expect the modest growth in the economy to slow in coming years as the European crisis escalates and Congress and the White House -- almost regardless of the occupant -- remain divided on long-range fiscal plans.

For legislators in the Sunshine State, that could mean a reduction in revenue when they begin to craft the states next fiscal plan in 2013 -- with totals even lower in subsequent years.
