Sen. Evers Wants Review of Law in Wake of Casey Anthony Verdict
State Sen. Greg Evers, R-Baker, likes the ideas of the presumption of innocence and the burden of proof on the state in murder trials, but now that Casey Anthony has been found not guilty of murdering her daughter, Caylee, by a jury of her peers, he wants a second look.
He wrote to Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, on Thursday, asking for workshop meetings in the Senate Criminal Justice Committee that he chairs.

Florida Part of $92 Million Settlement with JP Morgan Chase Over Bid-Rigging
Florida and 24 other states have reached a $92 million settlement with banking giant JP Morgan Chase over alleged fraudulent conduct involving bid-rigging and anticompetitive actions surrounding municipal bond derivatives, state Attorney General Pam Bondi announced Thursday.
A release from Bondi's office stated that Florida's take in the settlement is currently "undetermined."
Florida and other states have reached similar settlements with Bank of America and Union Bank of Switzerland in the past eight months.

Florida Bar Urged to Hold Cheney Mason Accountable for Obscene Gestures
While things are looking brighter for Casey Anthony, her attorney Cheney Mason could be in some hot water. John Jack Thompson, an activist and attorney who was disbarred by the Florida Supreme Court in 2008, sent a letter to Ken Marvin, the director of lawyer regulation at the Florida Bar, complaining about a photo of Mason making obscene gestures taken earlier in the month.

George LeMieux Backs 'Cut, Cap and Balance' Pledge
Former U.S. Sen. George LeMieux, now in a crowded Republican primary to take on Democratic incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012, came out swinging on Wednesday for the Cut, Cap and Balance pledge which opposes raising the federal debt limit and backs a balanced federal budget and lower spending. Casey Anthony Sentenced to 4 Years
Casey Anthony was acquitted Wednesday of the murder of her daughter, Caylee, but was sentenced to four years in prison Thursday, at a court in Orlando, for lying to the police.
She could spend little over a month in prison, however, because she has already served three years while on trial, and has earned time off for good behavior.
UPDATE: A judge has ruled that because of her previous time spent in prison and the time earned off she has accrued, Casey Anthony will be let out of jail on Wednesday.

A Day After Casey Anthony Decision, 'Caylee's Law' Proposed in Florida House
Well, that didnt take long.
A day after the decision was announced in the Casey Anthony case, Rep. Bill Hager, R-Boca Raton, announced on Wednesday that he would back Caylees Law, making it a felony for a parent or legal guardian who does not notify the authorities of a missing child in a timely fashion.
