Rick Scott Names Bob Martinez to Presidential Primary Committee

On Friday, Gov. Rick Scott unveiled his three choices for the state Presidential Preference Primary Date Selection Committee, and all of them were prominent Sunshine State political leaders.

Topping the list was former Gov. Bob Martinez, the second Republican to lead Florida during the 20th century. Martinez, who was also mayor of Tampa, was one of the key leaders in the effort to bring the 2012 Republican convention to the Tampa Bay region.

Bill Posey Bashes Obama for 'Lack of Vision' on Space Exploration

Florida Republican U.S. Rep. Bill Posey, who represents parts of the Space Coast, weighed in on NASAs unveiling of the design of the Space Launch System. Posey released a statement on Wednesday and he gave the Obama administration mixed marks.

Rick Perry Leading GOP 2012 Field in Florida

With the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) hosting a straw poll as part of its Presidency 5 meeting next week in Orlando, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas is in solid shape in the Sunshine State.

Perry topped an Insider Advantage/Florida Times Union poll released on Thursday with 29 percent. Former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, who has downplayed the P5 straw poll, placed second with 20 percent.

Mitt Romney Starts to Catch Up With Rick Perry

A national poll released by Bloomberg News, that was conducted by Selzer & Co., on Thursday morning found that Texas Gov. Rick Perry was leading the pack of Republican presidential candidates -- but former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts was right on his heels.

While Perry has been leadingRomney by double digits in most national polls, in the Bloomberg poll the Texans lead was within the margin of error. Perry garnered 26 percent in the poll while Romney took second with 22 percent.

The Miami Marlins Will Host Opening Day for 2012 Baseball Season

While they are on track to finish dead last in the National League East this year, the Marlins will be on center stage on Opening Day in 2012. Of course they wont be the Florida Marlins come 2012. The Miami Marlins (having been a fan of the Fish since the days of Orestes Destrade, Charles Johnson and Jeff Conine, the new name will take some getting used to) will be hosting the St. Louis Cardinals in the new Marlins Ballpark on Wednesday, April 5.

Gus Bilirakis Calls Out Eric Holder on 'Fast and Furious'

From his perch on the U.S. House Homeland Security Committee, Florida Republican Congressman Gus Bilirakis is demanding answers from the Obama administration regarding the Fast and Furious program in which the federal government knowingly allowed criminals to obtain weapons -- which resulted in the death of at least two federal agents.

Bilirakis sent a letter to U.S. Attorney General Eric Holder demanding to know about the roles played by the U.S. Department of Justice (DOJ) and the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) in the failed program.

NASA Unveils SLS Design for Deeper Space Exploration

On Wednesday, NASA unveiled the design of the Space Launch System (SLS) which, when completed, will be able to propel the Orion Multi-Purpose Crew Vehicle far outside the Earths orbit and pave the way for deeper space exploration -- including expeditions to asteroids and Mars. NASA officials are optimistic that the first SLS rocket will be launched in 2017.
