GOP Big Fish Back Mitt Romney When He Hits Palm Beach County

Former Massachusetts Gov. Mitt Romney, the leading candidate in the Republican presidential primaries, hit Palm Beach County on Thursday and raised a haul --with sources telling Sunshine State News that he gathered up more than $1.5 million.

Steven Ross, owner of the Miami Dolphins, hosted a fundraiser for Romney and the likes of Pepe Fanjul of Florida Crystals and Jerry Jordan in attendance.

Rick Santorum Staffs Up in Florida

Former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania, who was only eight votes away from defeating former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts to win the Iowa caucus, unveiled his campaign team for Florida on Friday. Tony Perkins, the former Louisiana state legislator who now leads the Family Research Council, a prominent social and religious conservative group, announced on Thursday that he is backing attempts in Florida to ban all abortions. Personhood Florida is attempting to push a state constitutional amendment similar to the one that went down in defeat in Mississippi last year.

Herman Cain Backs Craig Miller in Senate Race

On Thursday, businessman Herman Cain announced he is endorsing fellow restaurant executive Craig Miller for the Republican nomination to challenge Democrat incumbent U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012.

Cain, who rocketed to national prominence by running for the Republican presidential nomination and winning the Republican Party of Floridas Presidency 5 straw poll in September, endorsed Miller at a media event in Orlando. After rising to the top of the polls, Cain faded and pulled out of the race after facing accusations of sexual impropriety.

Ron Paul Wins the Backing of a Major Evangelical Leader

As the race for the Republican presidential nomination heads to South Carolina, with its high concentration of military families and evangelical Christians, those voters will increasingly be the focus of the GOP hopefuls.

U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas was able to score points with both of those key groups in an endorsement he received on Thursday from evangelical leader Rev. James Linzey, the president and founder of the Military Bible Association. The association helps military chaplains, provides Bibles to the military community and offers translations of the Bible.
