Alex Sink has conceded her close election to Rick Scott. Scott will now be Florida's next governor. "There is no path to victory," Sink told supporters and reporters Wednesday morning. With nearly 5.3 million votes counted, Scott had 68,277 more votes than Sink. Sink thanked her supporters but pointed out that Scott did not receive a mandate. "I want to remind Rick Scott that more than 2.5 million Floridians did not vote for him," she said.

A spokesperson for the Scott campaign says Alex Sink's claim of hundreds of thousands of votes left to count is improbable. While they don't have a firm grasp on the numbers quite yet, they say it is looking very favorable for them. What they do know is that as of about 12:40 a.m. Wednesday, they were ahead by around 73,000 votes.

While its been a big day for Republicans, there have been some bright spots for Florida Democrats. Two Democratic incumbents won bids for another term. With 47 percent of the vote in, U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, a rising star in Democratic circles, held on to defeat Republican challenger Karen Harrington, taking 60 percent of the vote. U.S. Rep. Alcee Hastings blew out Republican candidate Bernard Sansaricq. Hastings took 79 percent of the vote with 48 percent of precincts reporting.

With 77 percent of the vote in, Scott had 50 percent of the vote while Democratic candidate Alex Sink had 46 percent. Based on historical bellwether counties from the 2006 and 2008 elections, Sunshine State News calls the race for Scott -- who will become the 45th governor of the state of Florida.

Democrats had high hopes of knocking off Sen. Steve Oelrich, R-Gainesville but came up short. With more than 116,000 votes, Oelrich took 54 percent while former Rep. Perry McGriff, the Democratic candidate, took 46 percent. I congratulate Senator Oelrich on his re-election to the Florida Senate, said incoming Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island. North Central Florida has re-elected a senator that is focused on creating new jobs, ensuring the best education for our children, reducing the tax burden and lowering government spending.

Two more years for U.S. Rep. Ileana Ros-Lehtinen. With more than 122,000 votes counted, the veteran Republican legislator had almost 71 percent of the vote --easily besting Democratic candidateRolando A. Banciella. Ros-Lehtinen is the ranking Republican woman in the House -- and with Republicans winning control of the U.S. House, she takes over the Committee on Foreign Affairs.

Democrats wanted badly to knock off Rep. Chris Dorworth, R-Heathrow, who is scheduled to be speaker in 2015. It didnt happen. With more than 41,000 votes counted, Dorworth won 52 percent -- enough to hold off Democrat Steve Barnes who took 41 percent and TEA Party candidate John DeVries who had less than 7 percent. Thank you to the voters of HD 34 for their faith and confidence, wrote Dorworth on Twitter. Their trust is precious. God Bless America!!!

Sen. John Thrasher of Jacksonville, the chairman of the Republican Party of Florida, is enjoying quite a few victories in the Sunshine State on Tuesday night -- including his own. Thrasher held back the challenge of Democrat Deborah Gianoulis, a veteran news anchor from Jacksonville. While Democrats thought they would give Thrasher a fight, he crushed her on the First Coast, taking more than 59.5 percent of the vote with more than 146,500 votes counted. Gianoulis took just under 40.5 of the vote -- a huge victory for the Republican legislator.

Another Democratic seat in Congress falls to the Republicans in Florida. With 85 percent of the vote in, Steve Southerland defeated Democratic U.S. Rep. Allen Boyd. U.S. Rep. Kathy Castor held on to win another term, but the Florida Democrat did not do as well as she had traditionally. With 62 percent of the vote counted, Castor took 60 percent over Republican Mike Prendergast who took 40 percent. Castor crushed her Republican opponent with more than 70 percent in 2006 and 2008. Still, Republicans had high hopes for Prendergast -- but while he did better, he did not pick up the seat in a Republican year.

With two Republicans picking up seats in Congress in the early count -- with races still being counted -- CNN projected a moment ago that they have grasped back control of the U.S. House of Representatives. The gavel goes from Nancy Pelosi of California to John Boehner of Ohio. Democrats have controlled the House since the 2006 elections. Republicans appear to be picking up seats in the U.S. Senate, but it will be very tough to win control of it. Keep an eye on independent U.S. Sen. Joe Lieberman who will be much more important in 2011 than he has been in years.
