Another conservative organization will be hosting an event in Orlando next week when the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) holds its Presidency 5 event. On Friday, the Florida chapter of the Americans for Prosperity Foundation (AFPF-FL) announced they would be holding an event on the morning of Friday, Sept. 23 in the Peabody Hotel. Prominent conservative media figure Andrew Breitbart will be attending, as will Florida-based blogger Jordan Raynor and Guy Benson from Townhall.com.

On Facebook, Scott stated he will send Oklahoma Gov. Mary Fallin a pie if OU wins Saturday in Tallahassee. Scott would receive a Field's pecan pie if FSU prevails. For the UF game, Scott would receive a hickory smoked Benton's bacon from Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam.

For the 11th consecutive month, there has been an increase in the number of people who want to work finding a job. However, Florida's unemployment rate held for the third month at 10.7 percent, according to the Agency for Workforce Innovation. Overall, the state workforce grew by .1 percent, 9,900 jobs from July to August. AWI Director Cynthia R. Lorenzo called this an optimistic sign for a state that remains above the national unemployment mark of 9.1 percent.

Moments after Gov. Rick Scott named three members to the Presidential Preference Primary Committee that will meet next week to determine when the Sunshine State will hold its primaries in early 2012, the two leaders of the Florida Legislature named their choices. Senate President Mike Haridopolos, R-Merritt Island, named two Republican senators -- John Thrasher of Jacksonville and Rene Garcia of Hialeah -- and one Democrat -- Sen. Gary Siplin of Orlando -- to the committee. Thrasher had served as chairman of the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF).

On Friday, Gov. Rick Scott unveiled his three choices for the state Presidential Preference Primary Date Selection Committee, and all of them were prominent Sunshine State political leaders. Topping the list was former Gov. Bob Martinez, the second Republican to lead Florida during the 20th century. Martinez, who was also mayor of Tampa, was one of the key leaders in the effort to bring the 2012 Republican convention to the Tampa Bay region.

The calendar for next weeks state legislative committee meetings continues to evolve. A number of legislative and congressional redistricting meetings have been added to Mondays schedule. Earlier this week, the Senate Select Committee on Protecting Floridas Children had been moved to Monday, Sept. 19. The meeting is expected to get all sorts of attention because of the efforts by legislators to create a "Caylee's law" in response to public anger over a jury rendering a not-guilty verdict against the dead girl's mother.

Florida's Republican congressional delegation solidly supported a measure Thursday that would prohibit the National Labor Relations Board from ordering any employer to close, relocate or transfer employment. Spurred by the controversial NLRB sanctions directed at Boeing's new South Carolina plant, HR 2587 was supported by all Florida GOP congressmen except for Rep. Daniel Webster, R-Orlando, who did not vote. Though eight Democrats joined Republicans in voting aye, all nine of Florida's Democratic lawmakers opposed the bill.

With the Republican Party of Florida (RPOF) hosting a straw poll as part of its Presidency 5 meeting next week in Orlando, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas is in solid shape in the Sunshine State. Perry topped an Insider Advantage/Florida Times Union poll released on Thursday with 29 percent. Former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts, who has downplayed the P5 straw poll, placed second with 20 percent.
