The Florida Senate Committee on Ethics and Elections will take a trip from the Capitol to the Leon County supervisor of elections' operations center in Tallahassee on Tuesday morning. Committee Chairman Jack Latvala, R-Clearwater, called for the onsite visit to an elections center so committee members could receive demonstrations on the process in which both in-person and mailed absentee ballots, early voting ballots, provisional ballots and Election Day ballots are handled.

Gov. Rick Scott will head to Jacksonville on Tuesday to highlight portions of his transportation budget proposal. Defense grants totaling $2.6 million have been awarded to 10 projects across the state, the governors office announced Monday. With numerous bases across Florida, nearly 100,000 men and women who serve in active and reserve duty are living in the Sunshine State, Gov. Rick Scott stated in a release. These $2.6 million in grants will enhance relationships between Florida communities and the military, to ensure were doing the best job possible in working with our nations armed services.

The Orlando Sentinel reports on at least one unintended consequence of a105-page bill introduced last year by Rep. Ben Albritton, R-Wauchula, and passed by the Florida Legislature. The measure requires foreign visitors to be inpossessionof an "International Driving Permit" in order to lawfully drive vehicles in Florida. In response to concerns raised by the tourism industry and by the international community, theDepartment of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is delaying implementation of the law, which might violate the 1949Geneva Convention on Road Traffic.

Citizens Property Insurance Corp. is revising its purchasing policy in a belt-tightening move that includes legal reviews on contracts topping $65,000 and managers to watch over deals worth more than $35,000. The changes announced Friday state that the state-backed insurer will conform with state agency regulations unless the procurement procedures are already more stringent than the state.
