Submitted by Kevin Derby on February 15, 2013 - 2:36pm
The Orlando Sentinel reports on at least one unintended consequence of a105-page bill introduced last year by Rep. Ben Albritton, R-Wauchula, and passed by the Florida Legislature. The measure requires foreign visitors to be inpossessionof an "International Driving Permit" in order to lawfully drive vehicles in Florida.
In response to concerns raised by the tourism industry and by the international community, theDepartment of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is delaying implementation of the law, which might violate the 1949Geneva Convention on Road Traffic.
