Attorney and Navy veteran Paul Renner unveiled a major endorsement for his bid for the Florida House on Wednesday when he announced the support of Duval County Sheriff John Rutherford. Renner is running for the seat currently held by Rep. Daniel Davis, R-Jacksonville, who is leaving his seat in 2014 to lead the Jacksonville Chamber of Commerce. The seat represents parts of Duval County including the Westside of Jacksonville.

A new poll finds America is somewhat divided on the jury decision finding George Zimmerman not guilty in the shooting death of Trayvon Martin. A Rasmussen Reports poll released on Wednesday finds 48 percent of American adults agree with the decision while 34 percent disagree. A large segment of adults -- 18 percent -- is undecided. The poll of 1,000 adults was taken July 15-16 and had a margin of error of +/- 3 percent.

The 'Jesus Stomp' exercise that caused controversy at Florida Atlantic University during the 2012-2013 academic year will stay on campus. The exercise, which required students to write the name 'Jesus' on a piece of paper and step on it, will still be part of the recommended exercises in the classroom textbook, "Intercultural Communication: A Contextual Approach."

According to a new Rasmussen Reports poll, more American voters view the U.S. coal industry more favorably than the Environmental Protection Agency, and Americans are split on whether President Barack Obama has plans to kill the agency. Fifty-one percent of American voters said they viewed the coal industry at least somewhat favorably, and only 29 percent of voters view the coal industry unfavorably. Thirty-five percent of voters have a favorable opinion of the EPA.

The number of homeless people living in Florida has dropped 17.5 percent, according to a press release from the Department of Children and Families published Monday. In 2012, 55,000 Floridians were homeless during a one-day count; in 2013, just over 45,000 Floridians were living with no permanent residency -- a sign that Florida's economy is improving.

A juror in the George Zimmerman case, known as juror B-37, has dropped her plans to write a book on her account of the case. Buzz had been swirling yesterday after the juror spoke with CNN's Anderson Cooper at length about the trial.
