Deval Patrick Stays Out of 2016 Presidential Race

Scratch one possibility from the Democratic presidential field in 2016. On Tuesday, Gov. Deval Patrick of Massachusetts told the Boston Globe that he had no interest in running for the presidency in 2016.

Patrick made a wise decision. Hillary Clinton has a large lead over the possible Democratic primary field and, if she bows out, Joe Biden is the chief beneficiary. Things open up if both Clinton and Biden stay out of the contest but Elizabeth Warren, Andrew Cuomo and Cory Booker rise to the top of the field in that situation.

That leaves Patrick in a bit of an odd spot, especially in his home state. Warrens clearly the favorite candidate from the Bay State, not Patrick. With the crucial New Hampshire primary right across the border, Patrick would have probably been a nonfactor in his own backyard.
