Immokalee Flood Protection to Be Enhanced by SFWMD-Collier Partnership

The South Florida Water Management District (SFWMD) Governing Board approved a partnership with Collier County Thursday to improve flood protection for the Immokalee area by clearing the State Road 29 Canal of trees and debris.

Session Extension on the Horizon, but Senate and House Reach Agreement

The 2018 legislative session will continue on past Friday and the normal 60 days -- for however long it will take to pass a new $87 billion budget. Lawmakers failed to beat the Tuesday deadline -- last day before a 72-hour cooling-off period was set to begin. The new fiscal year begins July 1.

Scott Wants All FBI Details Surrounding Failure to Investigate Cruz Tip

Gov. Rick Scott called on the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) Monday to release all details surrounding the Bureau’s failure to take action after receiving information Jan. 5 regarding “[Nikolas] Cruz’s gun ownership, desire to kill people, erratic behavior, and disturbing social media posts, as well as the potential of him conducting a school shooting.” Last week Scott called on FBI Director Christopher Wray to resign following the Bureau’s admission it did not follow through and investigate the tip.

Florida Agriculture Will Get a 3-Way Cut of $2.36 Billion in Federal Disaster Relief

Florida will be splitting $2.36 billion in federal disaster relief for agriculture losses with similarly storm-ravaged Texas and Puerto Rico. 
 
Congress approved and President Donald Trump signed off Friday on a spending plan that included an overall $90 billion disaster relief package. How much of the $2.36 billion each state will receive wasn't immediately available.
