U.S. Senate Nominee Connie Mack to Appear as RNC 2012 Convention Headliner

August 15, 2012 - 6:00pm

U.S. Rep. Connie Mack, R-Fort Myers, now the partys nominee for U.S. Senate, has been given a headliner role at the Republican National Convention later this month in Tampa.

Mack joins a growing list of Floridians who will be on the national stage the last week of August, as he was one of six additional headliners announced for the event to formally name Mitt Romney the partys presidential candidate.

"I am proud to be able to represent Florida and be a part of officially nominating Mitt Romney as the next president of the United States, Mack said.

We will come together as a party and a country at the convention to demand a change of leadership in Washington, D.C. Our voices have been ignored long enough. For nearly four years, Washington's lockstep liberals have forced the government takeover of health care and saddled us with job-killing regulations, more taxes, more spending and more debt. That ends this year. The American people are demanding change, and change is on its way."

Other headliners announced Thursday by Republican National Committee Chairman Reince Priebus were U.S. Sen. Kelly Ayotte, R-N.H, former Democratic National Convention Speaker Artur Davis, Louisiana Gov. Bobby Jindal, Virginia Gov. Bob McDonnell, and U.S. Sen. Rob Portman, Ohio.

This exciting group of headliners includes two successful governors, two outstanding senators, the next senator from our convention state, and a former co-chairman of the 2008 Obama campaign, Priebus stated.

The perspectives and ideas they bring to the convention stage will show all Americans that Romney and Ryan are the ticket to a better future. Former Congressman Davis especially will give voice to the frustration and disappointment felt among those who supported President Obama in 2008 and are now hungry for a new direction."

Those attending the convention and watching the nightly national broadcasts will also get to see Gov. Rick Scott, former Gov. Jeb Bush, Attorney General Pam Bondi and U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio, R-Miami, on the main platform at some time.

Bondi will also be appearing as a headline speaker, while Rubio -- like Jindal, McDonnell and Portman who were rumored to be in the running for the vice presidential selection will introduce Romney on the final night of the convention.
