Sunshine State News welcomes aboard two new Tallahassee-based staff members, News Editor Joe Saunders and reporter Jim Turner.
Pennsylvania native Saunders, 45, attended Drexel University, worked 10 years for Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers as a reporter, wire editor, A1 centerpiece editor and metro editor. He also worked as a night metro editor at The Bradenton Herald and as a copy editor at the Charleston Gazette in Charleston, W.Va.
Far more interesting is how he describes his life so far: "I never won the National Spelling Bee, never came in second to Lance Armstrong in the Tour de France and never contributed much to the betterment of humanity. But the night is young."
New Jersey native Turner, 46, is a 1988 graduate of High Point College in North Carolina, majoring in English communications and literature and history. He spent the past 20 years at Scripps Treasure Coast Newspapers, mainly as a business editor and as the chain's local political and government reporter.
Outside the office, when not posting updates to Twitter -- jimturner23 -- Turner can be found bicycling, checking on the latest happenings at Cape Canaveral or following the New York Yankees.
He will cover the Legislature and business for Sunshine State News.
