All 120 Florida House seats and 20 Florida Senate seats will be up for grabs in November. No matter who wins the gubernatorial contest, the Legislature will play an important role when it convenes in March 2015. Factor in leadership contests, major issues ranging from casino gambling and education spending, perhaps more legal challenges to congressional redistricting and the Legislature will have its hands full -- whether a Republican governor is looking to cement his legacy or the first new Democratic governor in 24 years leads the Sunshine State.
Starting Monday and running for two weeks, Sunshine State News will offer a series from political analyst Jeff Henderson looking at the top 10 most competitive legislative races in Florida. The series starts with the 10th most competitive race and will end with the most competitive election.
Most of the series focus will be on Florida House races. No member of the Florida Senate will face term limits this year and most of the Senate contests simply arent competitive. There are some exceptions, of course, on the Senate side but, generally, the battles for House seats are far more compelling this year.
The series begins on Monday, Oct. 13, and will run until Friday, Oct. 24. We invite readers to read the series in the days to come.
