Shark Tank Blogger Javier Manjarres Arrested for Attempted Murder

March 28, 2016 - 5:30pm

One of Florida's most prominent conservative political bloggers has been arrested for attempted murder, according to information posted on the Broward County Sheriff's Office's website.

Florida Politics originally reported Javier Manjarres, known as "the Shark" for his blog The Shark Tank, was arrested Saturday morning in Pompano Beach on a warrant for attempted murder with a gun and for burglary of a conveyance with battery.

According to the Sun Sentinel, Manjarres allegedly broke his sister's boyfriend's nose and shot his truck during an altercation. Manjarres' sister and her boyfriend, Jason Holowinski, had an argument which turned heated when she said he grabbed her neck during the argument then dropped her off at the Palmetto Park Shopping Center in Boca Raton.

Later, Manjarres' sister told Holowinski to pick her up and he pulled up next to her and opened up the passenger door. Manjarres then appeared, stepping into Holowinski's truck and hit him four to five times, according to a police report.

Holowinski said he saw Manjarres reach for something in his waistband and then he reversed to speed off. Holowinski then said he struck Manjarres' car and heard three gunshots. Holowinski then headed to his brother's house and was taken by ambulance to a hospital in Tamarac.

When police showed up at Manjarres' house, they saw his damaged car.

He is currently being held without bond.

Manjarres has long been one of the leading voices in conservative blogging in the Sunshine State. He was named Conservative Political Action Conference's "Blogger of the Year" in 2011 and has been well-known for his coverage of Florida congressional races, including the highly contested 2010 U.S. Senate contest.

A one time supporter of Rubio, Manjarres became a bitter critic and enemy of his after Rubio's election to the U.S. Senate.

This isn't the first time Manjarres has been arrested. According to the Miami New Times, Manjarres had another run-in with the law in 1995 when he was charged for burglary with assault for allegedly driving to the apartment of Peter Bronkie, who was dating Manjarres' ex-girlfriend. According to a police report from the Palm Beach County Sheriff's Office, Manjarres broke down Bronkie's door and punched him, leaving Bronkie with bruises. Manjarres served two years probation after pleading guilty to the charges.

No full arrest report was available at the time of this story's publication.
