Rick Santorum and Allen West Featured in New Film to Debut at GOP Convention

August 9, 2012 - 6:00pm

When the Republicans convene in Tampa later this month, a conservative group will unveil a new film featuring former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania and U.S. Rep. Allen West, R-Fla., about the American Revolution and the establishment of the U.S. Constitution.

Citizens United, best known for their successful challenge to the federal campaign laws, will launch Our Sacred Honor on Wednesday, Aug. 29 at the Citizens United Theater at Liberty Plaza in Tampa. The group is looking to distribute the movie via DVD.

Besides looking at the American Revolution and comparing it to the French Revolution, the movie looks at the Declaration of Independence and the Constitution and the men behind them.

Citizens United and Santorum made it clear that there was a political message in the film.

President Obama has been running away from our founding documents for nearly four years, and this documentary will remind Americans of what made our country great at its beginning, Santorum said on Friday. I am extremely pleased to be part of this important documentary, and I look forward to its premiere in Tampa.

Santorum carried 11 state primaries and caucuses earlier this year but he lost out to former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts for the Republican presidential nomination.

While there has been speculation that Santorum is looking at taking another shot at the Republican presidential nomination -- he is scheduled to campaign in Iowa, home of the first caucus, on Saturday -- this week the former senator showed he intends to be busy at the GOP convention in Tampa. On Tuesday, the Republican National Committee announced that Santorum would speak at the convention. On Wednesday, Patriot Voices, a group affiliated with Santorum, revealed that it would hold an event to rally conservatives behind Romney during the convention.

David Bossie, the president of Citizens United, insisted that Santorum was the right man for a documentary about the American founding.

During the presidential campaign, Senator Rick Santorum often quoted the two founding documents that bind our nation together the Declaration of Independence and the U.S. Constitution, Bossie said. This documentary goes into great detail about what those sacred documents truly mean. It was a great pleasure to work with Senator Santorum on this film, and I know the American people will enjoy it, starting in Tampa.

Besides Santorum and West, other figures appearing in the documentary include former U.S. Attorney General Edwin Meese, historian Victor David Hanson and noted pundits Mark Levin and Michelle Malkin.
