Rand Paul Champions Ted Yoho's Push Against Obama's Immigration Action

December 14, 2014 - 6:00pm

U.S. Rep. Ted Yoho, R-Fla., has a Senate sponsor for his bill to prevent President Barack Obama from using an executive order to allow illegals a path to stay in the nation -- and its a possible presidential candidate in 2016.

U.S. Sen. Rand Paul, R-Ky., who is continuing to garner buzz as a presidential candidate in 2016, announced on Friday that he would take up Yohos Preventing Executive Overreach on Immigration Act in the Senate. Yohos bill passed the U.S. House earlier this month.

"I believe that the Constitution is clear that the legislative power resides in Congress, Paul said on Friday. The president is not a king and he does not have the power to enact laws then execute his own laws. Our Constitution is being violated by this executive order and other actions by the Obama administration to govern by executive fiat.

Yoho introduced his Executive Amnesty Prevention Act" in late November which he says will keep Obama from overstepping his constitutional boundaries on immigration. Pointing to the Constitution, Yoho stressed Article I, Section 8, Clause 4 allows Congress the power to establish a uniform rule of naturalization and Article II, Section 3 ensures the president shall take care that the laws be faithfully executed.

Earlier this month, speaking to Sunshine State News, Yoho said his proposal was not a simply symbolic bill and insisted there is a chance it can get through the U.S. Senate despite it remaining under Democratic control until the GOP takes over in early January.

Paul and Yoho have worked together before. In March, Yoho kicked off his campaign for a second term in Congress with Pauls help. The senator from Kentucky recorded a video for Yoho in which he endorsed the Florida congressman. Back in March, Yoho hyped Paul up as the presidential front-runner.

I am glad to endorse my friend and colleague Ted Yoho for re-election, Paul said in his endorsement. The thing about Congressman Yoho is that he has been unafraid, and I think why he has been unafraid to defend liberty, defend limited government and our Constitution is because he had a real life. He had a real job. As a veterinarian, he isnt afraid to go back to his profession at any point and time, so he hasnt been afraid to stand up to Republicans or Democrats who arent doing the right thing.

In Washington, we are still borrowing more than $1 million a minute, Paul continued. We keep electing people but its not changing. Its only going to change when people begin to follow the lead of people like Congressman Ted Yoho. So I am proud to stand with Congressman Ted Yoho. I am proud to endorse him and proud to support him. When you are looking for leadership, when Florida is looking for leadership, Ted Yoho is your man and I am proud to stand with him.

For his part, Yoho praised Pauls conservative leadership and tenacity in getting the conservative message out.
