U.S. Rep. Corrine Brown intends to run for another term. While there were rumors that she was considering pulling out of the race, she filed paperwork Monday for her tenth term in Congress. Four of the Republican candidates battling it out in the primary to take Brown on engaged in an often acrimonious debate in Clay County on Monday night U.S. Rep. Jared Polis, D-CO, has backed North Miami City Councilman Scott Galvins bid for the congressional seat that Kendrick Meek is vacating to run for the U.S. Senate. Polis will be speaking at a fundraiser for Galvin on May 1...

Former Gov. Claude Kirk is not high on Meek. Kirk said this week that former Miami Mayor Maurice Ferre is much better qualified to represent Florida in the Senate. Kirk, who served as governor as a Republican before switching over to the Democrats and then jumping back to the Republicans, also said he thinks Charlie Crist should stay a Republican.. .Orlando Mayor Buddy Dyer announced Monday that the city faces a $50 million deficit and may have to lay off more city employees, just as it did last year Jacksonville Mayor John Peyton has been included as a dark horse on some lists about being added to the Republican ticket as lieutenant governor. With his recent support of a controversial activist, the former chairman of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, to the citys Human Rights Commission, not to mention his push to raise fees for collecting garbage, Peytons support among conservatives is on the wane and makes his addition to the ticket even more unlikely...

Rep. Jennifer Carroll had something else to celebrate this week besides the end of session -- her son Nolan, who played football at the University of Maryland, was drafted in the fifth round by the Miami Dolphins... Florida Baptist Witness does not have much praise for members of the Legislature this year, but it is giving Senator Ronda Storms and Rep. Charles Van Zant high praise for their opposition to the pact with the Seminoles over gambling revenue. They are also praising Daniel Webster, a member of their board, who is now running in a competitive Republican primary to take on U.S. Rep. Alan Grayson...

Americans for Democratic Action released its annual ratings of the most progressive members of Congress. Three of the top 10 most liberal Republicans come from Florida: Mario Diaz-Balart, Lincoln Diaz-Balart and Ilena Ros-Lehtinen. Florida produced 5 of the 98 members of Congress who earned perfect scores from ADA in 2009: Brown, Kathy Castor, Grayson, Debbie Wasserman Schultz and Robert Wexler. Wexler resigned his seat in January.
