Longtime NAACP activist Richard Burton and civil rights veteran J.T. Johnson will be leading efforts to create a civil rights museum in St. Augustine, where some of the more dramatic moments of the civil rights struggle took place in the summer of 1964. Also leading the efforts in Sen. Tony Hill Sid Dinerstein, chairman of the Palm Beach County Republican Party, is urging Gov. Charlie Crist to pull out of the Senate race and focus on taking on U.S. Sen. Bill Nelson in 2012.
Despite having served two terms as mayor of Key West, Morgan McPherson is having a hard time raising funds for his bid to knock off incoming House Minority Leader Ron Saunders. McPherson hauled in $14,600 in the first quarter of 2010, compared to the $38,250 that Saunders raised. That is all the money McPherson has, while Saunders has brought in almost $121,000. While the Republican Party of Florida has sent McPherson more than $1,300 and would love to knock off Saunders, Republicans in Tallahassee are no longer as optimistic as they were when session began that they can defeat Saunders.
