Murphy Leads Grayson in Democratic Primary

June 6, 2016 - 10:45am

A new poll shows Patrick Murphy with the edge over congressional colleague Alan Grayson as Florida Democrats mull over who they want to run for the Senate in November.

Mason Dixon released a poll on Monday showing Murphy with 31 percent of Florida Democrats followed by Grayson with 23 percent. Attorney and Navy veteran Pam Keith lags far behind with 3 percent. But a large segment of Florida Democrats--43 percent--remain undecided on who they support.

The poll shows all three Senate hopefuls have work to do to get their names out there.

Murphy is seen as favorable by 27 percent of Florida Democrats while 6 percent view him unfavorably. Almost a third of those surveyed--32 percent-- have heard of Murphy but are neutral on him. More than a third---35 percent--simply have never heard of him.

Grayson is seen as favorable by 21 percent of Florida Democrats while 12 percent view him in an unfavorable light. Like Murphy, more than a third of those surveyed--36 percent--don’t know who Grayson is while 31 percent have heard of him but are neutral on him.

Keith is easily the most unknown candidate with 75 percent of Florida Democrats never having heard of her and 16 percent saying they have heard of her but are neutral on her. Keith is seen as favorable by 6 percent while 3 percent view her as unfavorable.

The poll of 400 Florida Democrats was taken from May 31-June 2 and had a margin of error of +/- 5 percent.
