Two top Florida Republicans announced Tuesday they will enjoy part of the limelight on the national political stage as the 2012 elections approach.
Attorney General Pam Bondi will be in the spotlight on Saturday night as she co-hosts a forum for the Republican presidential candidates. The forum will be on Mike Huckabees show on Fox News at 8 p.m. and Bondi will be joined by two other state attorneys general -- Scott Pruitt of Virginia and Ken Cuccinelli of Virginia. Huckabee, the former Arkansas governor who ran for the Republican presidential nomination in 2008, moved to Florida last year.
This forum is an excellent opportunity to engage each of the candidates in a candid conversation about issues that are important to voters in our state and across the nation, Bondi said in a statement. This will be a historic election, and I am excited to play a part in helping voters gain a better understanding of candidates beliefs on fundamental issues such as constitutionalism and the role of government.
Attorney General Pam Bondi will make a great addition to the presidential forum this weekend, said Lenny Curry, chairman of the Republican Party of Florida. General Bondi has been a leader in the fight to overturn Obamacare, working tirelessly to protect our citizens from the mistakes of the Obama administration. I am confident she will ensure that the interests of Floridians, and voters nationwide, are addressed by the candidates.
Six of the Republican candidates -- U.S. Rep. Michele Bachmann of Minnesota, former U.S. House Speaker Newt Gingrich, U.S. Rep. Ron Paul of Texas, Gov. Rick Perry of Texas, former Gov. Mitt Romney of Massachusetts and former U.S. Sen. Rick Santorum of Pennsylvania -- are scheduled to participate in the forum on Saturday.
Florida Republican U.S. Sen. Marco Rubio will be speaking at the iconic American Conservative Unions Conservative Political Action Conference event in Washington come February.
In a short period of time, Marco Rubio has proven himself a courageous force in the U.S. Senate and a rising star of the national conservative movement, said ACU Chairman Al Cardenas, a former chairman of the RPOF, in a statement on Tuesday. The American Conservative Union is proud to announce Senator Rubios return to CPAC, and proud to host the nations premier venue to highlight conservative leaders, principles and policies in 2012.
