Creating jobs will be the focus of much of the 2010 legislative session.
Here's a look at the omnibus bill from Sen. Don Gaetz's Select Committee on Florida's Economy (draft 4-01009A), which would aid Florida employers in job creation, with particular emphasis on smaller businesses.
Among other things, the provision would:
Expand the corporate investment tax credit that produces high-paying jobs, reducing the job-creation requirement from 100 to 50 while accelerating the annual credit.
Increase the appropriations cap of the Qualified Target Industries program from $35 million to $100 million and create a $2,000-per-job bonuses for selected businesses.
Create an annual $1,000-per-job corporate income tax credit for businesses that hire a person who has been unemployed for at least 26 weeks. Good for two years.
Establish a Jobs for Florida Revolving Loan Program to provide matching, low-interest revolving loans to Florida-based businesses of fewer than 50 employees.
