Murphy and Domino Launch TV Ads in CD 18

September 16, 2014 - 6:00pm

The airwaves on the Treasure Coast are starting to fill with TV ads as congressional candidates pick up the pace with less than seven weeks to go until the general election.

Earlier this week, U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla., released his sixth TV ad of the general election. The ad showcases his support from Tequesta Mayor Abby Brennan, an independent, and three prominent Republicans: Bud Adams of Adams Ranch, Riviera Beach Councilwoman Dawn Pardo and Sewalls Point Commissioner Jacqui Thurlow-Lippisch. In the ad, they praise Murphy on environmental and economic issues and for working with Republicans.

Patrick has been hard at work for the people of the Treasure Coast and Palm Beaches, fighting on the issues that matter most to the community, said Anthony Kusich, Murphys campaign manager. This includes securing funding for local beach renourishment and projects to help clean the Indian River Lagoon, standing with the community in opposition to All Aboard Florida, and supporting efforts to grow our local economy. Patrick knows that continued progress on these issues requires the community to work together, and he is committed to working across the aisle, both at home and in D.C., to get things done for the district and our nation, earning the support of local leaders regardless of party affiliation.

In the meantime, the Republican challenging Murphy -- former state Rep. Carl Domino -- launched his first TV ad for the general election on Wednesday. Dominos spot is more akin to the preview of a summer blockbuster than a political ad. Domino ignores Murphy in the ad, instead focusing his fire on President Barack Obama and Washington. The ad does play up Dominos years in the Navy which included serving in the Vietnam War.

Our new ad highlights the kind of leadership action needed in Washington, Domino noted about the new ad.

While innovative and entertaining, the ad makes a serious point, said Larry Casey, Dominos campaign manager, on Wednesday. Voters know that there are large challenges in Washington that need serious solutions. The choice is clear: keep Patrick Murphy and continue down the wrong road or elect an everyday hero like Carl Domino who will steer Washington back to the road of common-sense conservative principles.
