What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I never thought I'd be a state senator. I was an English major in college at the University of Florida.
What do you consider to be your biggest political achievement?
I sponsored SB 1128, which was signed into law last year and ensures that Florida's disabled homeless children and children in foster care have a designated advocate to make educational decisions on their behalf.
What was your biggest political faux pas?
None come to mind right away.
Who in state government do you most admire?
Andrea Moore, former executive director of the statewide legal advocacy organization "Florida's Children First," which focuses on protecting the legal rights of at-risk children.
Who in all the world do you most admire?
Hillary Clinton. She is doing an excellent job as secretary of state and I believe would do an excellent job in any position she held.
Who is your favorite lawmaker of the opposite party and why?
Sen. Durell Peaden and Sen. Paula Dockery. I think they are both bright, capable leaders.
What do you remember as being your wackiest constituent request?
People have asked me to get them tickets for private tours of the White House.
What is your favorite place in the world?
Israel. I've been there a number of times and I really looked forward to any chance I have to go back.
What is your least favorite household chore?
Cleaning the bathroom. Fortunately, we have staff that takes care of the household chores when I'm away.
