What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I wanted to be a sports writer. I grew up in New England and have always been a big Boston Red Sox, New England Patriots, Boston Celtics and Boston Bruins fan.
What do you consider to be your biggest political achievement?
SB 1196/22, which clarifies the property insurance requirement of condominium associations and repeals the requirement that condominium unit owners must maintain property insurance. It has the most effect on the most people in my district.
What was your biggest political faux pas?
Voting for the property insurance bill SB 1980 in 2006.
Who in state government do you most admire?
Former Senate President Ken Pruitt, because he had the strongest vision of any politician I've ever known.
Who in the world do you most admire?
Steve Jobs, because he improved the world.
Who is your favorite lawmaker of the opposite party and why?
Sen. Don Gaetz and Sen. J.D. Alexander, because they both ran successful businesses.
What do you remember as your wackiest constituent request?
I had a guy write me from prison, where he had been sent after shooting a police officer, and he wanted me to exact revenge on the judge who sentenced him.
What is your favorite place in the world?
Maine. It's a beautiful state, and I have a lake in the northern part of the state I enjoy the most.
What is your least favorite household chore?
I don't like doing the dishes.
