What did you want to be when you were growing up?
I always wanted to be the President of the United States.
What do you consider to be your biggest political achievement?
Being elected to the Florida Senate. I've been in nine elections in the last eight years.
What was your biggest political faux pas?
Any vote that I've cast in favor of gambling. I understand that as a state we need the revenue, but I've seen the harm it can do to people's lives.
Who in state government do you most admire?
Sen. Steve Wise, because he cares so much for children.
Who in all the world do you most admire?
Jesus Christ, because he died for people he didn't even know.
Who is your favorite lawmaker of the opposite party and why?
Sen. J.D. Alexander, because he's a genuinely good person.
What do you remember as being your wackiest constituent request?
A lady called my house one night and wanted me to come over and fix her plumbing.
What is your favorite place in the world?
I love New York City because there are so many interesting things to see and do up there.
What is your least favorite household chore?
I don't like cleaning the bathroom.
