Meet Sen. Carey Baker

March 29, 2010 - 6:00pm

Age: 47

Residence: Eustis

Time in the Legislature: 10 years

Political Affiliation: Republican

Spouse: Lori

Children: Leighton, Caroline, Reagan

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

Just like my father. He owned A.W. Peterson Gun Shop and I used to work there. He's passed, but I still own and operate the shop. Its the oldest gun shop in the United States and has been open for 50 years.

What do you consider your biggest political achievement?

Bringing the voice of the common man and small government to the state Legislature. I also helped introduce the Florida Health Care Freedom Act.

Who in state government do you most admire?

Sen. Daniel Webster, because he brought honesty and trust to state government. He wasnt afraid to voice his opinions and I agreed with what he had to say. He is greatly missed.

Who in all the world do you most admire?

The two people that I most admired were my father and President Ronald Reagan. They have both passed, but the lessons they taught will live on forever. I named one of my children after the late president, so that tells you how I felt about him.

Who is your favorite lawmaker of the opposite party and why?

Jack Seiler, because he brought thoughtfulness and mutual respect to his job. He is currently the mayor of Fort Lauderdale and he is bringing the same abilities to that job. He has an ability to bring both sides of the aisle together.

What is your favorite place in the world?

Wherever my wife and children are. I have a busy schedule but I always find time for my family.

What is your least favorite household chore?

I always have a honey-do list and its always full. But my least favorite chore is putting up laundry. I think Id rather do anything else.
