What did you want to be when you were growing up?

I wanted to be a professional basketball player, and I tried out for the San Diego Conquistadors and was cut by their coach, who was Wilt Chamberlain.

What do you consider to be your biggest political achievement?

Sponsoring the Rosewood Bill, SB 591, which was passed in 1994. It compensated survivors and descendants of the Rosewood massacre.

What was your biggest political faux pas?

I can't think of any.

Who in state government do you most admire?

Herb Morgan, because of his leadership and his mastery of the state budget.

Who in all the world do you most admire?

My high school basketball coach Vernell Ross, because he helped shape me into the man I am today.

Who is your favorite lawmaker of the opposite party and why?

The late Sen. Jim King, because he was always fair and he was a peacemaker.

What do you remember as being your wackiest constituent request?

I was once asked to sponsor a bill prohibiting dwarf-tossing. At one time that was a big thing in bars.

What is your favorite place in the world?

My backyard, because I love gardening and I find it very peaceful and relaxing back there.

What is your least favorite household chore?

Cleaning the house.
