What did you want to be when you were growing up?
Either a movie star or a comedian.
What do you consider to be your biggest political achievement?
Everything I've done since I was elected to office has had one objective, and that is to make the state safe for all its citizens.
What was your biggest political faux pas?
When I was on the City Council in St. Petersburg, I was of the opinion that I didn't have to listen to what everyone had to say. Since then I've learned that is not a good way to operate.
Who in state government do you most admire?
Jack Seiler, the current mayor of Fort Lauderdale. He had a unique way of getting his point across and was skilled at working with both parties.
Who in all the world do you most admire?
Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King, Jr., and Bobby Kennedy. They were all great leaders with remarkable vision.
Who is your favorite lawmaker of the opposite party?
Abraham Lincoln.
What do you remember as your wackiest constituent request?
I really can't think of one, but oftentimes people get their state lawmakers confused with their congressmen and senators in Washington.
What is your least favorite household chore?
Sorting and folding the laundry.
