What did you want to be when you were growing up?
A teacher, and I've taught English in junior high school.
What do you consider to be your greatest political achievement?
My husband died of cancer and I've devoted my time in the Legislature to laws regarding cancer research.
What was your biggest political faux pas?
I'm not a polished politician, so this has all been a learning experience for me.
Who in state government do you most admire?
Former Speaker of the House Allan Bense, a special friend and a man of great integrity.
Who in all the world do you most admire?
Former President Ronald Reagan because he inspired a nation.
Who is your favorite lawmaker of the opposite party and why?
Sen. Al Lawson, because he's a very fair man and he has a great moral compass.
What do you remember as being your wackiest constituent request?
We had a man from my district who used to call the office at midnight or 1 in the morning every day and leave us messages. I can't remember what the messages were but I do remember him calling.
What is your favorite place in the world?
The beaches in my district after the session is over. I go there and decompress for at least a week.
What is your least favorite household chore?
I really don't like to cook.
