Meet Rep. Jimmy Patronis

April 11, 2010 - 6:00pm

Age: 38

Residence: Panama City

Time in the Legislature: Four years

Political Affiliation: Republican

Spouse: Katie

Children: Jimmy Theo III

What did you want to be when you were growing up?

I was always interested in construction and design. My family owns Captain Anderson's Restaurant in Panama City, so I worked there weekends and summers.

What do you consider to be your biggest political achievement?

Sponsoring HB 461, which revised eligibility for health flex plans. Essentially, they are health plans for small business owners.

What was your biggest political faux pas?

I've had good mentors, so I've managed to stay away from those.

Who in state government do you most admire?

Rep. Alan Hays. He has been a colleague, a mentor, a friend but above all that, he has been like family to me.

Who in all the world do you most admire?

Abraham Lincoln. He was able to pull together the "band of rivals" at one of the most crucial times in our nation's history.

Who is your favorite lawmaker of the opposite party and why?

Sen. Al Lawson because he's down to earth, loyal to his party and his constituents and he holds firm to his beliefs.

What do you remember as being your wackiest constituent request?

I've had many requests to fight federal issues.

What is your favorite place in the world?

My district, because I don't think there's a more beautiful place in the world. I challenge anyone to drive out to St. Joseph's State Park on Cape San Blas and find me a prettier beach.

What is your least favorite household chore?

I do most any chore, but the one I can't stand is ironing. My wife buys me beautiful shirts but I insist they be wrinkle-free.
