If Democrats want to nail down Florida in November, Joe Biden might offer them their best chance.
Mason Dixon released a poll on Friday which shows the vice president in far better shape than the three leading presidential candidates. Almost half--48 percent--of those surveyed see Biden as favorable while 26 percent see him unfavorably. Biden said last year that he would not make a third attempt at the White House.
Those numbers are far better than the two main candidates running for the Democratic nomination. Hillary Clinton is seen as favorable by 41 percent while 47 percent view her in an unfavorable light. Only 30 percent see Bernie Sanders favorably while 41 percent see him unfavorably.
Presumptive Republican nominee Donald Trump is upside down in Florida with a majority of those surveyed--53 percent--seeing him as unfavorable while 31 percent see him favorably.
When the Democrats are matched up against Trump, Biden does the best, leading the Republican 50 percent to 40 percent while 6 percent opt for former New Mexico Gov. Gary Johnson, the Libertarian candidate. Clinton takes 45 percent while Trump gets 42 percent and 6 percent remain behind Johnson. Trump and Sanders tie with 42 percent each while Johnson moves up to 8 percent.
The poll also looks to see if adding favorite sons in the vice presidential spot would help the presidential candidates. Asked if the Democrats choosing Bill Nelson for vice president would impact their vote in November, 17 percent of those surveyed said it would make them more likely to vote for the Democrats while 11 percent said it would make them more likely to vote against the Democrats. When Rick Scott was added as the running mate on the GOP side, 40 percent of those surveyed said that would make them less likely to vote Republican while 7 percent said it would make them more likely to vote for the GOP ticket.
The poll of 625 registered Florida voters was taken from May 31-June 2 and had a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.
