Hillary's Florida-bound for Fundraisers as GOP Hits Her on Ethics

May 18, 2015 - 6:00pm

The front-runner for the Democratic presidential nomination in 2016 will be heading to the Sunshine State next week for high-end fundraisers, including an event with trial lawyer John Morgan.

Former U.S. Secretary of State Hillary Clinton will be in Florida for Conversation with Hillary events in Miami on May 28. Clinton will stay in South Florida for a fundraiser in Parkland on May 29 followed by an event at Morgans home in Heathrow later in the day. Politico first reported on the fundraisers which will cost donors $2,700 to attend, $27,000 to co-host and $50,000 to host.

Morgan has been increasing politically active in Florida. Former Gov. Charlie Crist, a former Morgan employee, was the Democratic gubernatorial candidate who lost to Gov. Rick Scott last year. Morgan himself was the main force behind Amendment 2, a proposal to expand marijuana legalization in the Sunshine State. Amendment 2 fell just short of the 60 percent needed to pass at the ballot box. while a Web video of Morgans profanity-laced tirade in which he spoke about his marijuana use and encouraged supporters to go out and vote went viral. Morgan also got into a high-profile spat with U.S. Rep. Debbie Wasserman Schultz, D-Fla., the chairwoman of the Democratic National Committee (DNC) and a close Clinton ally.

The Republican National Committee (RNC) pointed to continued ethical concerns involving Clinton, ranging from fundraising to protecting her emails during her time at the State Department.

Instead of answering serious questions about shady foreign donations and her secret email server, Hillary Clinton continues to opt for closed door fundraisers and staged campaign events, said Ali Pardo, a spokeswoman for the RNC on Tuesday. With new concerns being raised each day, it is clear why Floridians cant trust her.

Clinton beat Barack Obama in the Florida primary in 2008 and, last month, hired Sandy Ducane to lead the campaigns grassroots operation in the Sunshine State.
