After their second debate on Sunday night, Hillary Clinton clings to a small lead over Donald Trump in a new poll of Florida.
Opinion Savvy released a poll of likely voters on Wednesday which shows Clinton taking 47 percent while Trump pulls 44 percent. Gary Johnson, the former New Mexico governor who is the Libertarian Party’s presidential candidate, gets 5 percent while 1 percent are for Jill Stein who is the Green Party’s candidate. With less than a month to go until Election Day, only 3 percent are undecided.
At the end of September, Opinion Savvy released poll showing Clinton with a smaller lead. She led with 47 percent with Trump right behind her at 46 percent while 4 percent opted for Johnson and 2 percent backed Stein.
On Wednesday, Opinion Savvy weighed in on the differences between the two polls, noting Clinton’s support remained the same even as Trump’s dropped slightly.
“Clinton’s numbers haven’t actually moved since our last poll,” noted Opinion Savvy in the release included with the poll. “Rather, voters appear to have broken away from Trump, in favor of Gary Johnson, or have otherwise become undecided. This is likely the result of the infamous tape released last week, which included statements that (as our crosstabs seem to indicate) significantly moved older voters away from the polarizing candidate.”
Also factoring in was the second debate which 48 percent of those surveyed say Clinton won while 44 percent think Trump was the victor. Clinton and Trump will meet for the third and final debate next Wednesday in Nevada. Like Florida, Nevada is expected to be a swing state in next month’s election.
The poll of 533 likely voters in Florida was taken from Oct. 10 through Oct. 11 and had a margin of error of +/- 4.2 percent.
