Hillary Clinton has the slightest of leads over Donald Trump in Florida, a new poll shows.
Opinion Savvy took a poll of likely voters for Fox 13 Tampa Bay and Fox 35 Orlando which was released on Friday and showed Clinton ahead. This is the third poll taken and released after the first general election debate on Monday which had Clinton leading in Florida, the largest electoral swing state.
Clinton takes 47 percent in the Opinion Savvy poll while Trump is right behind her with 46 percent. Gary Johnson, the former New Mexico governor running as the Libertarian candidate, gets 4 percent while Jill Stein, the Green Party nominee, takes 2 percent. Only 1 percent of likely voters are undecided.
Asked about who won the debate on Monday night, a slight majority--51 percent--think Clinton did while 41 percent say Trump won.
The poll shows Trump running strong in the Panhandle and on the First Coast while Clinton carries the I-4 corridor. The candidates are, according to the poll, neck and neck in Southeast Florida, an area where other polls have Clinton ahead.
Both candidates have nailed down their respective party bases, the poll finds. Clinton takes 79 percent of Florida Democrats while 19 percent are for Trump. On the Republican side, Trump gets 78 percent of the GOP faithful while 18 percent support Clinton. The candidates are neck and neck when it comes to voters outside the major parties, an area where Trump has led in some recent polls. Trump takes 43 percent of voters outside the major parties in the Opinion Savvy poll while 42 percent are for Clinton, 8 percent prefer Johnson and 6 percent support Stein.
Trump does better in the Opinion Savvy poll with minorities than he does in other polls of Florida voters. Conversely, Trump’s lead over Clinton with white voters is nowhere near as large in the Opinion Savvy poll as it is in other polls of the Sunshine State.
The poll of 619 likely Florida voters was taken from Sept. 28-Sep. 29 and had a margin of error of +/- 4 percent.
