Regardless of how the U.S. Supreme Court rules on the Affordable Care Act, Associated Industries of Florida plans to help craft and oversee an overhaul of health care in the Sunshine State.
Tom Feeney, AIF president and CEO, released a statement Tuesday that his business group will soon host the first of a continuing series of public events where industry stakeholders will be invited to provide input on crafting a new vision for health care access and affordability in Florida.
Thursdays U.S. Supreme Court ruling on the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act will no doubt be historic and will finally bring closure to the months of anticipation on the fate of this sweeping federal legislation, Feeney wrote.
Irrespective of the decision, the time is right for a new discussion on the future of health care in our state. Our current health care delivery system is not sustainable and we must find ways to reduce the cost of quality health care to ensure greater access to health care insurance.
No date has been set for the event.
Feeney noted AIF has been working to bring health care leaders together for three months and the overhaul could take several years.
Florida must set a new standard for how health care is delivered in our state. As the voice of Florida business, AIF looks forward to leading the effort to craft a more functional health-care delivery system, Feeney stated.
The announcement was expected to stay under wraps until the court ruling was issued, but pushed out on Tuesday when the News Service of Florida planned to write about the plans.
