Florida Voices: Realtors Tell About Hard Times

April 5, 2010 - 6:00pm

Realtors from across the state started congregating in the Capitol on Tuesday for the 40th Annual Great American Realtor Days, two days of lobbying lawmakers on issues important to the real estate market. Members of the Florida Association of Realtors from across the state spoke about the most pressing legislation affecting them as they advocate for themselves in the Capitol and at home:

Its hard to say that theres one (bill) that's any more important than the others. I think one of the things were all working on very hard this year is voting no on Amendment 4. Were trying to get our points across and trying to not only educate our legislators but also educate ourselves on how we can help them back home.
-- Lauren Connolly, Indian River County

The whole package of our legislation is very important. Because it all pertains to trying to build an environment that helps encourage the sale of real estate, it makes real estate sales more palatable, which will help the economy of Florida.
-- Karl Zimmermann, Indian River County

Some of the property I deal in is commercial real estate, and (Amendment) 4 would make the approval more difficult. We already have a commission to make development decisions. We dont need to go to the voters.
-- Tom Miesen, Niceville

"The Sadowski cap is one of the most important pieces (of legislation). That fund was started to fund the housing market, and the money has been wasted.
-- Marion Briggs, Fort Myers
