As college football players in Gainesville and Tallahassee get ready for the upcoming season, the Florida Lottery will unveil lottery tickets next week featuring the Florida Gators and the Florida State Seminoles. The Lottery announced Tuesday it will launch its $50,000 Gridiron Cash scratch-off tickets next Tuesday.
We are thrilled to show our support for both the Seminoles and the Gators, said state Lottery Secretary Cynthia OConnell. This game gives us the unique opportunity not only to show support for college football in Florida, but also to generate funds for the universities and students through ticket sales, which are estimated to generate more than $5.5 million to Floridas Educational Enhancement Trust Fund.
The tickets will be sold from Aug. 13 until Nov. 4 and offes more than $20 million in cash prizes, including 10 x $50,000 prizes and a second-chance promotion. Fittingly, some of the prizes offered in the second-chance promotion involve college football, including clothes, season and single-game tickets and a package involving the bowl games at the end of the season.
The athletics administrations of both Florida and Florida State expressed their support of the new lottery tickets on Tuesday.
The Florida Lottery is a longstanding partner with Florida State athletics and we are excited to take part in this new collegiate ticket promotion said Vanessa Fuchs, who is currently serving as the interim athletic director at FSU. Lending our brand to help generate funds for Florida schools and scholarships for deserving students is something we take pride in doing.
We are excited to be teaming up with the Florida Lottery in the creation of this exciting new college football-themed scratch-off game, said Jeremy Foley, the athletics director at UF. It is fantastic to be able to develop exclusive Florida Gator prize elements for our fans, while generating revenue for Florida students and schools.
As the season begins, both UF and FSU rank as two of the top teams in the nation. The Gators are No. 9 and the Seminoles No. 10 in the Associated Presss preseason rankings. The Gators place 10th in the preseason Coaches Poll while the Seminoles place 12th. The Gators open their season at home against Toledo on Aug. 31 while the Seminoles start at Pittsburgh on Sept. 2. The two teams play in Gainesville on .Nov. 30.
