WMEL, the flagship station of the Ed Dean Radio Show --  top political radio talk-show host focused on Florida politics -- has moved frequencies from 1300AM to 1060 AM, boosting its range as it goes from 5, 000 watts to 50,000 watts.

John Harper, owner of Broadcast House LLC, and operator of WMEL purchased WIXC and earlier this month expanded the range of his station, including Dean’s show.

“With this major upgrade in signal power, our new ‘flame thrower’ positions us to reach millions of additional listeners with exceptional talk radio programming,” Harper said. “The move also enables our advertisers to reach millions of new customers and extend their brand recognition from Daytona, south to West Palm Beach and from Florida’s Space Coast west into the Orlando metropolis.

“We intend to continue the high-quality coverage AM 1300 WMEL has delivered for more than a quarter century, including our phenomenal lineup of local hosts who are very well-educated and passionate about their topics,” Harper added.

“Everybody focuses on national issues," said Dean, a senior editor with Sunshine State News. “The most important politics are state and local. The major issues -- taxes, education, unions, environmental issues -- are state and local. Not everything happens in D.C. A lot of it takes place in Tallahassee and on the local level.”

A senior media analyst for the Taxpayers Protection Alliance, Dean is a FOX News contributor for FOX News 35 in Orlando and his work has appeared in Florida Voices, the Space Coast Daily and Sunshine State News. Before that, he covered politics for Straight Talk, the Brevard Reporter and WMEL Radio, where he won awards for his coverage of the 2004 hurricane season.

Politics is in Dean's blood. With his uncle John Buckley, a former Reagan consultant, Dean helped run BTV, a media and polling firm. Back in 2010, Dean was the featured MC for the Spending Revolt bus tour of Florida, launched by Americans for Prosperity (AFP). Dean has also worked as a media consultant to politicians, campaigns and businesses groups at the state and national levels.

Dean’s show appears in media markets in Florida on weekdays from 5 p.m. to 7 p.m. and with weekend appearances in some markets.

Kevin Derby, the senior political writer for Sunshine State News, is a daily guest on the show, appearing at 6 p.m.
