U.S. Rep. Patrick Murphy, D-Fla., is showing off his pro-business credentials this week even as his Republican opponent, former state Rep. Carl Domino, argues the freshman Democrat effectively rubber-stamps the Obama-Pelosi agenda.
Murphy released a new TV ad on Tuesday which features Paul Gardner from Palm Beach Gardens-based manufacturer Agilis praising the congressmans record on tax credits and jobs.
As a small-business man himself, Patrick knows that its not governments role to create jobs, but rather to create an environment that spurs economic growth, said Anthony Kusich, Murphys campaign manager. He has been hard at work visiting local companies to discuss firsthand what policies would best spur job growth locally, and is one of just six Democrats nationwide to earn the support of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce. It is clear that Patricks small-business background is an asset in Washington and for the community.
As Kusich noted, the U.S. Chamber, which traditionally backs Republicans, threw its support behind Murphy earlier this week.
At no other time in our nations history has it been more critical that members of Congress provide leadership that protects and advances the interests of the business community, said Thomas Donohue, the president and CEO of the U.S. Chamber, on Monday. Murphys record of support on pro-business issues earned this endorsement.
It is truly an honor to receive the support of the U.S. Chamber of Commerce, a highly-respected organization that shares my commitment to creating an environment conducive to job growth through common-sense, pro-business solutions, said Murphy. As a former small-business man, I have brought my private-sector experience to Congress and put smart policy above partisanship to make sure that America and Americans succeed.
Domino looked to call Murphys commitment into question on Tuesday.
Since Patrick Murphy was sworn into office, the national debt has increased by more than $1 trillion, Domino noted. In 2012, despite his flip-flops, Murphy campaigned as a supporter of Obamacare and told WPTV that we need to let the health care reform act work.
Domino also looked to tie Murphy to President Barack Obama and U.S. House Minority Leader Nancy Pelosi, D-Calif., on Tuesday.
Murphy effectively rubber-stamps the Obama-Pelosi agenda by voting 84 percent of the time with Pelosi in Congress, Domino noted. Washington is broken and Patrick Murphy is part of the problem."
