In mid-August, former President Bill Clinton pumped up Democratic crowds at three back-to-back rallies in South Florida. It was an unusual offering of political star-power to support the party's U.S. Senate hopeful, Kendrick Meek.
During the Delray Beach event, Clinton told hundreds of Meek supporters how much he believed in him.
"I love Kendrick Meek," he said, "and I would be there for him if I was the only vote he had in the entire country."
While Meek has a lot more than Clinton's one solitary vote, he's failed to make up much ground on Charlie Crist in the polls. Now Democrat officials are telling the press Clinton tried twice to get Meek to give up his seat and endorse Gov. Charlie Crist so their common rival, Marco Rubio, wouldn't win.
