Already part of the Republican leadership, U.S. Rep. Dennis Ross, R-Fla., expanded his portfolio in Congress this week.
Ross, who is the senior deputy majority whip, was named vice chairman of the U.S. House Financial Services Committee’s (FSC) Subcommittee on Housing and Insurance and was tapped to serve on the Financial Institutions and Consumer Credit and the Oversight and Investigations Subcommittees.
Under the umbrella of the U.S. House Oversight and Government Reform (OGR) Committee, Ross was named to U.S House Interior, Energy and Environment and the Government Operations Subcommittees.
Ross noted his FSC assignments cover banking security, financial regulation and consumer credit issues.
"Serving on the Financial Institutions and Oversight and Investigations Subcommittees is an incredible honor that I plan to uphold with the highest integrity and responsibility,” Ross said on Friday as he announced his assignments. “Protecting consumers and ensuring Americans have access to safe banking systems must be a national priority, of which my colleagues and I promise to preserve and advance. I also look forward to holding agencies and departments under the FSC's jurisdiction accountable so we can eliminate fraud, waste, mismanagement and abuse by large government bureaucracies."
Ross also showcased his OGR assignments, noting the subcommittees he was named to oversee the U.S. Agriculture, Energy, Interior, Labor and Treasury Departments as well as the federal Environmental Protection Agency (EPA), the White House, the Postal Service and the Office of Management and Budget (OMB).
“The responsibilities of the OGR Interior Subcommittee align very well with much of my expertise and the interests of Central Florida and the Tampa Bay Region,” said Ross. “District 15 is blessed with a strong agricultural presence and issues related to our public lands, and the EPA greatly affects the cattlemen, citrus growers and other specialty crop producers I am proud to represent. Additionally, as an avid outdoorsman and Chair of the House Recreation Vehicle Caucus, I have worked closely with the Department of the Interior to ensure our public lands remain accessible and useable to the American people.
“I am proud to represent the American People on the Government Operations Subcommittee so we can guarantee they have access to critical information about the operations of their government," Ross added. "This subcommittee ensures federal agencies are open and transparent in their execution of federal law, and that Americans will be able to more effectively hold public officials accountable with the knowledge provided by this access to information.”
