On Friday, House Speaker Dean Cannon, R-Winter Park, named committee and subcommittee assignments for the 2011 session.
I have made every effort to accommodate your requests and preferences, wrote Cannon in a memo sent out Friday to all House members. I have also significantly modified the block schedule to expand the options for members to serve in multiple areas of interest.
Appropriations committees
Rep. Denise Grimsley, R-Lake Placid, will head up the full Appropriations Committee with Rep. Paige Kreegel, R-Punta Gorda, being named as vice chairman of the full committee. No freshmen were named to the committee.

OToole was selected to lead the Higher Education Appropriations Subcommittee with Rep. Eddy Gonzalez, R-Hialeah Gardens, as her vice chair. The other Republicans on the subcommittee are Rep. The PreK-12 Appropriations Subcommittee will be led by Rep. Marti Coley, R-Marianna, with Rep. Erik Fressen, R-Miami, as the vice chair. The other Republicans on the subcommittee are Rep. The Transportation and Economic Development Appropriations Subcommittee will be chaired by Horner with conservative Rep. Ritch Workman, R-Melbourne, serving as vice chair. They will be joined by fellow Republicans Rep. Jeffrey Brandes of St. Petersburg, Rep. Douglas Broxson of Gulf Breeze, Rep. Rachel Burgin of Riverview, Rep. Matthew Caldwell of Fort Myers, Rep. Brad Drake of DeFuniak Springs, Mayfield, Rep. Peter Nehr of Tarpon Springs and Rep. Lake Ray of Jacksonville. The Democrats on the subcommittee are Rep. Lori Berman of Delray Beach, Rep. Mack Bernard of West Palm Beach, Rep. Evan Jenne of Fort Lauderdale, Rep. Hazelle Rogers of Lauderhill and Rep. Richard Steinberg of Miami Beach.
Education committees
The full Education Committee will be led by Proctor with OToole as his vice chair. Other Republicans on the committee are Adkins, Bileca, Brandes, Coley, Davis, Fresen, Rep. Clay Ingram of Pensacola, Smith, Stargel and Tobia. The Democrats on the committee are Branyon, Bullard, Clarke-Reed, Fullwood, Reed and Stafford.
Fresen will lead the K-20 Competitiveness Subcommittee with Adkins as vice chair. The other Republicans on the subcommittee are Broxson, Burgin, Coley, Corcoran, Davis, Nunez, Perry and Trujillo. The Democrats are Bullard, Chestnut, Clarke-Reed, Fullwood and Reed.
Stargel will chair the K-20 Innovation Subcommittee and Tobia will be vice chair. Other Republicans on the subcommittee are Bileca, Brandes, Rep. Ari Porth of Coral Springs and Schwartz are the Democrats on the committee.
The Health and Human Services Access Subcommittee will be led by Harrell, a veteran of the House returning to Tallahassee, and Rep. Mike Weinstein, R-Orange Park, will serve as vice chair. Other Republicans on the subcommittee are Costello, Drake, Harrison, Horner, Logan, Nunez, Roberson and Young. The Democrats on the subcommittee are Berman, Clarke-Reed, Fullwood, Perman and Porth.
The Health and Human Services Quality Subcommittee will be chaired by Wood with Renuart as the vice chair. They will be joined by fellow Republicans Boyd, Corcoran, Diaz, Gaetz, Gonzalez, Hudson, Metz and Rooney. The Democrats on the subcommittee are Pafford, Randolph, Reed, Schwartz and Taylor.
Finance and Tax, and Economic Affairs committees
The Finance and Tax Committee will be led by Rep. Steve Precourt, R-Winter Garden, with Dorworth as the vice chair. The other Republicans on the committee are Ahern, Brodeur, Broxson, Costello, Diaz, Fresen, Grant, Mayfield, Moraitis, Ray, Rooney, Trujilo, Van Zant and Weinstein. The Democrats on the committee are Rep. Joseph Abruzzo of Wellington, Berman, Julien, Randolph, Rehwinkel Vasilinda, Rogers, Thurston and Waldman
Serving under Hukill on the Economic Affairs Committee will be Holder who was named vice chair. The other Republicans on the committee are Artiles, Bovo, Boyd, Dorworth, Drake, Nehr, Nelson, Nunez, Roberson and Workman. Democrats on the committee are Abruzzo, Jenne, Perman, Slosberg, Thompson and Waldman.
Bovo will lead the Business and Consumer Affairs Subcommittee with Robersonas vice chair. Ahern, Artiles, Crisafulli, Eisnaugle, Goodson, Nunez, Patronis and Young are the Republicans on the subcommittee; Abruzzo, Jones, Rouson, Slosberg and Stafford are the Democrats.
Workman was named to lead the Community and Military Affairs Subcommittee and will have the services of Hooper as vice chairman. They will be joined by fellow Republicans Brandes, Caldwell, Costello, Diaz, Dorworth, Grant, Renuart and Smith. The Democrats on the committee are Berman, Campbell, Julien, Pafford and Randolph.
Holder will chair the Economic Development and Tourism Subcommittee with Ray as vice chair. They will be joined by fellow Republicans Coley, Hager, Logan, McBurney, Perry, Rooney, Trujilo and Workman. The Democrats on the subcommittee are Abruzzo, Bernard, Fullwood, Rogers and Thompson.
Nelson will lead the Insurance and Banking Subcommittee with Wood as vice chair. Other Republicans on the subcommittee are Albritton, Boyd, Burgin, David, Fresen, Hager, Ingram and Workman. They will be joined by Democrats Bernard, Cruz, Jenne, Julien and Thurston.
Drake will head up the Transportation and Highway Safety Subcommittee with Baxley as vice chair. While Baxley is starting a new stint in the House, he served in it before from 2000 until 2007. They will be joined by fellow Republicans Adkins, Ahern, Albritton, Artiles, Broxson, Horner, Nehr and Weinstein. The Democrats on the subcommittee are Berman, Clemens, Rouson, Slosberg and Steinberg.
Judiciary committees
Snyder will serve as chairman of the Judiciary Committee with McBurney penciled in as the vice chair. They will be joined by fellow Republicans Baxley, Eisnaugle, Gaetz, Goodson, Hager, Harrison, Metz, Passidomo, Pilon and Steube. The Democrats on the committee are Campbell, Julien, Porth, Schwartz, Soto and Steinberg.
Eisnaugle will head up the Civil Justice Subcommittee and Ford will be the vice chair. The other Republicans on the subcommittee are Gaetz, Hager, Harrison, Metz, Passidomo, Stargel, Steube and Weinstein. The Democrats on the subcommittee are Bernard, Kiar, Soto, Stafford and Steinberg.
Baxley will chair the Criminal Justice Subcommittee with Van Zant as the vice chair. They will be joined by Republicans Brodeur, Glorioso, Grant, Harrell, McBurney, Perry, Pilon and Trujillo. The Democrats on the subcommittee are Bullard, Campbell, Julien, Porth and Thurston.
Rules and Calendar committees
Rep. Gary Aubuchon, R-Cape Coral, will lead the Rules and Calendar Committee with Eisnaugle serving as vice chair. The Republicans on the committee are Burgin, Crisafulli, Dorworth, Ford, Frishe, Gonzalez, Holder, Patronis, Precourt, Ray, Stargel and Rep. Will Weatherford of Wesley Chapel. The Democrats on the committee are Gibbons, Porth, Reed, Sands, Soto, Thurston and Waldman.
The Rulemaking and Regulation Subcommittee will be led by Dorworth with Ray as vice chair. The other Republicans on the subcommittee are Adkins, Artiles, Brandes, Broxson, Corcoran, Gaetz, Goodson and Patronis. Branyon, Gibbons, Randolph, Rogers and Waldman are the Democrats assigned to the subcommittee.
State Affairs committees
The full State Affairs Committee will be led by McKeel with Patronis as vice chair. They will be joined by Republicans Burgin, Caldwell, Crisafulli, Ford, Kreegel, Mayfield, Perry, Plakon, Porter and Williams. The Democrats on the committee are Bembry, Clemens, Garcia, Kriseman, Taylor and Williams.
Crisafulli will lead the Agriculture and Natural Resources Subcommittee with Burgin as vice chair. Plakon will lead the Federal Affairs Subcommittee with Nehr as the vice chair. The Republicans on the subcommittee are Bileca, Bovo, Caldwell, Diaz, Hudson, Moraitis, Porter and Smith. They will be joined by Democrats Abruzzo, Campbell, Garcia, Schwartz and Thompson.
Patronis will head up the Government Operations Subcommittee with Mayfield as his vice chair. The other Republicans on the subcommittee are Ahern, Bileca, Gonzalez, Logan, Nelson, OToole, Plakon and Young. The Democrats on the subcommittee are Branyon, Clemens, Solsberg, Taylor and Williams.
Select and Joint committees
Cannon named Williams to head the Select Committee on Water Policy with Drake as the vice chair. They will be joined by Brodeur, Caldwell, McBurney, Nelson, Pilon, Rooney, Steube and Van Zant. The Democrats on the committee are Bembry, Jenne, Perman, Sands and Taylor.
Grimsley will lead the House side of the Joint Legislative Budget Commission. She will be joined by Republicans Hooper, Horner, Hudson and Schenck, and Democrats Chestnut and Rouson.
Cannon said earlier in the month that he will not name members of the redistricting committee until 2011 due to software issues and the need to study two new constitutional amendments approved in November. Weatherford, who is in line to become speaker after Cannon is term-limited, will lead redistricting in the House.
