Have we all forgotten the innocent victim in the near 11-month Charlie Crist-Rick Scott bloodbath?
What of the dutiful little fan?
Imagine how "Emerson" is feeling today. Alone in some darkness. Blades silent. He lost his job, his best friend and the love of his life Tuesday night when Charlie Crist left the stage at the Vinoy in St. Petersburg -- defeated and ... without him.
But what most people don't know and I do is, once back in his apartment in the small hours of Wednesday morning, Charlie was haunted by little Emerson. It wasn't the election loss that played on his mind. It was his fan. The separation pangs were almost unbearable. Whither dost thou go, faithful little fan?
What could a lonely, defeated gubernatorial candidate who had just completed the bizarre trifecta of losing a race in three different parties do?
Then Charlie got an idea.
He would write his beloved an ode. Yes, that's the ticket.A love poem. It was the only thing that gave him comfort.
Luckily, we at Sunshine State News were staking out the trash bins in the Crists' apartment complex (wink, wink) and got our hands on a draft copy of the poem.
It's very personal ... we shouldn't share ... but we know you've heard the rumors. Besides, there are those who mistakenly believe Charlie only has feelings for himself.
Here now is Charlie's "Ode to My Forever Fan:"
O brave little fan, we are joined like twins;
Draw comfort from a memory of our mingled winds,
My hot air, your cool breeze ...
Always met in the middle to weaken my knees.
I kept you hidden, you were so purdy,
Afraid your whir was wicked flirty.
What if someone stole you away from a stage,
Leaving me to sweat in a jealous rage?
Nobody ever stuck by me like you,
Through good times and bad, you stayed true;
My turn-on till the end ... your loving hum ...
How can I live without you, Emerson?
But wait! We need not part,
Sweet appliance of my heart;
Join me on my billboards, cool my tan,
I dub you forever 'the People's Fan.'
Incurable romantic that I am, I believe love will win out and Charlie and his fan will be reunited sooner rather than later and live happily ever after.
