Having raised more than $1.7 million for her bid for another term, Democratic U.S. Rep. Suzanne Kosmas has more than $1.2 million on hand. Almost $765,000 of her funds come from PACs.
Former Winter Springs Mayor Paul Partyka will challenge Kosmas in the Democratic primary. While he has raised more than $43,000 for the race, Partyka had only $1,730 on hand.
The Republican primary battle is much closer, with the three major candidates dumping hundreds of thousands of dollars of their own money into the race.
Former Ruth's Chris CEO Craig Miller has hauled in almost $232,000 from individuals and added almost $357,000 of his own into the campaign. Miller has almost $326,000 on hand. With a recent influx of $200,000 of her own funds, Winter Park City Commissioner Karen Diebel is sitting on more than $450,000. Rep. Sandy Adams, R-Ovideo, threw in $100,000 of her own money into the campaign and now has under $182,000 on hand.
Kosmas is a favorite but not an overwhelming one to beat whichever Republican emerges after the primary. While there are closer battles in Florida, this will be an interesting race -- and one Democrats need to win if they want to keep control of Congress.
